The Garland Independant School District serves the communities of Garland, Rowlett and Sachse with a student enrollment of over 57,000 and an employee count of 6,307, making the GISD the largest employer in Garland. The City of Garland is the city's second-largest employer, with 2,200 employees working to be sure that the city continues to run smoothly. Raytheon may be the third largest employer (2,000 employees), but they lead the way in technology, specializing in defense, homeland security and other government markets. As well as designing and producing ISR, ASTOR and electronic warfare systems which protect the lives of warfighters, their MathMovesU program helps engage middle school students by showing how important math is, and relating it to careers that the students find interesting.
