Education Alternatives in Garland, Texas

The Garland Independant School District consists of a total of 66 schools: 6 high schools, 13 middle schools, 45 primary schools, and 2 pre-kindergarten schools. While a small portion of these are located in the neighboring towns of Rowlett and Sachse (Rowlett has 1 high, 2 middle and 8 primary schools, while Sachse has 1 high, one middle and 2 primary schools.) most of the schools are located within Garland. 12 of the GISD schools are magnet schools, featuring special programs for gifted/talented students, students with an interest in math, science and technology (Also known as MSTs), students interested in classical studies or performing arts, and those focused on college and career preparation. Examples of these magnet schools include Beaver Technology Center (MST-focused elementary school), the Classical Center at Brandenburg Middle School (Classical studies), and Garland High School (Gifted/Talented students).


Garland is also home to 11 private schools, including two private pre-kindergarten/kindergarten schools, and two schools which cover the full range of grades from kindergarten to grade 12. A full list of these schools can be found here: Amberton University is located in the southern end of the city, near the Zacha Junction neighborhood, and offers a variety of bachelor's and master's programs, specializing in Business Administration, Counseling, Professional Development, Human Resources & Training, Human Relations & Business, and Applied Studies. Eastfield College in Mesquite has been serving the Mesquite, Garland and East Dallas community since 1970. Other higher education facilities include Richland College, , Southern Methodist University, Brookhaven College, El Centro College, and Mountain View College.
